Cucumber Salad Recipe

I just got an email from my aunt who was raving about a cucumber salad that someone made.  She passed the recipe along to me, so I’m passing it along to you.  (Update: my aunt says she forgot to mention that the recipe had sugar - I would opt for Splenda, however.)

Ingredients

  • One large cucumber sliced

  • One or  more (just what ever you like) tomatoes sliced

  • One large onion sliced or chopped

Directions

Mix the following and pour over veggies:

  • 6 Tablespoons salad oil (extra virgin olive oil would be optimal)

  • 2/3 cup white vinegar

  • salt, pepper (peppercorns are better)

  • 1/2 t celery seed

  • 1/2 dry mustard

  • Splenda to taste

Let sit in refrigerator a day or two.

Best MultiVitamin for the Money

Just today, one of my clients (who is a personal trainer) asked me “Which multi do you suggest that people purchase?”  She wanted to know both for herself and for her clients.

Let me briefly state that there are a TON of multivitamin/mineral products on the market.  Most of them are crap!  For the record, if your multi rhymes with sintrum or wonuday, then you bought junk, my friend.

On the other hand, some of these mutlit-vitamin/mineral products are absolutely TOP NOTCH!  Unfortunately, many people have to take out a second mortgage to pay for them.

Later I will review various vitamin and mineral products that I think are good, regardless of the cost.

But today I want to give you my recommendation for the best multi-vitamin and multi-mineral (all in one) for the money…

Natrol’s My Favorite Multiple (yep, that’s the real name!)My Favorite Multiple

I sometimes like to give car analogies to explain the quality of something.  If your department store multi is a Yugo (do they still make those), and the best ones (that cost over $100/month) are Ferraris, then Natrol’s My Favorite Multiple is a Lexus.  But since you can get it here for under $15, you’re getting that Lexus for the price of a Honda Civic.

The Tragedy that Faces Us

There’s a Killer at Large…

I saw this movie trailer on Alwyn Cosgrove’s blog and thought I’d share.

We (as a society) have to make a change.  And we need to help others make a change.

I would love to hear your comments below.

Yours in health and fitness,

Slim Guide Body Fat Calipers

Slim Guide CalipersI use and recommend Slim Guide skin fold calipers to measure and monitor your body fat.

Over the years I’ve used just about every brand of skin fold calipers out there, including some that cost over almost $500.  But to be honest, Slim Guide calipers are my favorite… and they only cost $20.

In response to one of my newsletters where I discussed the importance of measuring your body fat, many of you asked what brand of calipers I use and where you can get them.  As I mentioned, I recommend the inexpensive but accurate Slim Guide calipers.

As for where to get them…  I’ve had mine so long I honestly can’t remember where I got them.  However, I didn’t wanna leave you hangin’ so I did some searching on the net.

While I found a few places that sold them, I hesitate to recommend buying things from places I’m not familiar with.  However, I did find a very reputable place that sells them - Power Systems.  What’s kind of cool (though unimportant) is that theirs come in black instead of the typical white (which get dingy looking).

Weight Control Oats - Delicious Discovery

When deciding what to eat for breakfast, you can’t go wrong with a bowl of oatmeal. It is quick and easy to weightcontrolvariety.jpgprepare (perfect for all of you who “don’t have the time to eat breakfast”), and will keep you full for hours, which is important when trying to manage your weight. Also, studies have shown that the whole grains and fiber in oatmeal can help lower cholesterol and reduce your risk of heart disease.

However, when prepared with just water, oatmeal can be a little….bland. Sure you can make it more palatable by adding your own milk and sugar, or just buying some of the instant flavored varieties that make this otherwise healthy grain about as nutritious as a bowl of Fruit Loops, but that kind of defeats the purpose now, doesn’t it?

Well, if you can’t bring yourself to eat oatmeal without first adding some sugar, then I have good news for you…

Dr. Clay recently introduced me to Quaker’s Weight Control line of instant oatmeal. It tastes just as good as the other flavored varieties, but it only has 160 calories and 1 gram of sugar! It also packs 6 grams of fiber and 7 grams of protein, which is twice as much as the regular Quaker oats. Quaker Weight Control comes in 3 flavors: Banana Bread, Cinnamon, Maple & Brown Sugar. Every flavor tastes great, but if I had to pick I’d say that the Maple & Brown Sugar is my favorite.

Just remember, breakfast really is the most important meal of the day, so pick up some Quaker Weight Control and start your day off right. Enjoy!

*For even more protein and flavor, I like to add 1/2-1 scoop of vanilla protein powder and a few sprays of I Cant Believe It’s Not Butter.
