Newsflash: NPC Bikini Division

I have known for months now about the new NPC Bikini Division, but I was sworn to secrecy.  However, the NPC (National Physique Committee) has now publicly announced the new Bikini class, so I can now get this "secret" off my chest.

Let me give you physique competitors (or aspiring competitors) the lowdown. 

Starting in 2009 the NPC will offer a new category for female competitors called the Bikini Division.  Now female physique competitors can compete in bodybuilding, fitness, figure, or bikini. 

Though I plan to talk to some higher ups in the NPC to get the full details, it’s safe to say that the ideal NPC Bikini Division physique will be comparable to that of a great swimsuit model – less muscular and not quite as lean as a figure competitor.

Because of the fact that the division is brand new for 2009, you do not have to qualify for national level bikini contests in 2009.  So, although I typically would not recommend it, you could make your first contest a national level event.
