Help, my elbow hurts!

Question: I have been weight-training for the past 7 years….I recently started doing weight training after 6 months gap.. and hurt my right elbow joint while doing heavy lying triceps extension (I should not have gone for heavy, blunder!!).

Almost 6 weeks are over now and no relief. Doctor told me it’s bursitis and will go away. There is no swelling at the tip, no redness or scar but there is sharp pain on elbow tip especially on touch.

When on NSAIDS the pain goes away and feels everything is normal but soon after stopping comes back. I don’t want to continue NSAIDS and want to start workout soon. Any help will be much appreciated!  (received via forum)

Answer: Here’s what I would do if you were my patient (assuming you have what I think you have).

I would do Active Release on the affected triceps and show you how to stretch it. I would recommend doing no to very light triceps training (nothing that hurts). I would have you ice it about 4 x day for 15 min each time.Elasti-Joint

Nutritionally I would have you take 6g fish oil per day, avoid red meat and other things with arachidonic acid, and take Elasti-Joint and Sorenzyme daily as directed.

I suspect it would resolve completely in 6 weeks give or take.
