Question about Good, Low-Carb MRP (Meal Replacement Product)
Question: Could you recommend a very low-carb MRP? Thanks, Paul
Answer: MRP’s (Meal Replacement Products/Packets) can DEFINITELY come in handy – big time!
Although I’ll use blended protein that’s in a jug when I’m at home, I ALWAYS keep a couple MRP packets in my laptop backpack, gym bag, and even in my car.
You won’t believe how many times this has saved me (and my clients) from missing a meal. Because they’re already in packets, you can grab ‘em and go, making them perfect for “emergency situations.”
One of the biggest endorsements I can give a product is to tell you that I use it myself. If that’s the case, then I obviously think it’s a good product, and good for the money… I’m all about getting the best products at the lowest prices!
The MRP that I use, which happens to be low-carb, is Labrada’s Carb Watcher’s Lean Body packets. I absolutely LOVE the Vanilla Ice Cream flavor!
Although their Strawberry Ice Cream and Chocolate Ice Cream are great, too. In fact, they have a Neopolitan variety pack that has some of each – that’s a good place to start when trying Carb Watcher’s Lean Body for the first time.
If you purchase it from Bodybuilding.com (which is what I would do since their prices and service are the BEST in the industry), one packet (which replaces a meal) is just $2.10. So much for the overused excuse “eating healthy is too expensive blah, blah…”
1 Packet Carb Watcher’s Lean Body
- Protein: 40 g
- Carbs: 12 g (but 4g are from fiber)
- Fat: 4.5 g (only 1g sat fat)
- Calories: 250
For you ladies, Labrada also makes a low-carb MRP for you called Lean Body for Her. And it comes out to just $1.80/meal.
1 Packet Lean Body for Her
- Protein: 30 g
- Carbs: 9 g (3g of which is fiber)
- Fat: 3 g (only 1g sat fat)
- Calories: 180
I also checked to see if there were other brands that looked good. I found one made by CNP Professional (formerly Dorian Yates Approved) called Pro Dessert. If their quality is as good as it was when they were DYA, then they make good stuff.)
They recommend you add just a little water and eat it like pudding, which I do with Lean Body all the time after I saw Lee Labrada himself do it once while we were at a photo shoot.
Pro Dessert comes in chocolate and vanilla, but only has 25g protein. So if you’re a bigger guy, you made need two packets at a time.
CNP’s Pro Dessert is currently on sale at bb.com. In fact, they have a buy 2 get 1 free. (I suspect it must not be selling too well, but it’s a good time to try it.)
Pro Dessert by CNP Professional
- Protein: 25 g
- Carbs: 4 g
- Fat: 2 g
- Calories: 250
Alright, Paul, that should fix you up, buddy.
Best,
Dr Clay

Dr. Clay
Since we are on the topics of carbs, how many carbs should I consume each day/meal if I want to be lean but still have enough energy to workout?
181 grams per day, unless you’re an Aquarius.
Sorry, Adam, I couldn’t resist.
That’s an impossible question to answer. But, I promise to come back and give you (and others) some pointers to determine how many grams of carbs you do need to consume.
Best,
Dr Clay
