Whey Concentrate vs Whey Isolate: Which is Better?

There seems to be a lot of confusion regarding the difference between whey protein isolate vs whey protein concentrate… and for good reason.whey protein on

Supplement manufacturers that sell whey protein isolate will try to convince you that it’s worth spending the extra money on a whey isolate.  But when you consider that whey protein isolate is typically double the cost of whey protein concentrate, is isolate really worth the extra money?

The truth is… at certain times and for certain people, whey protein isolate is worth the extra money, while at other times (or for other people) whey protein concentrate is perfectly fine.

To find out the details regarding when you should choose whey isolate over whey concentrate, watch the latest Whey Protein episode of the Dr Clay Show.  I will set you straight.

I wouldn’t go with whey concentrate ever because of the oxidation of the cholesterol still contained in the whey concentrate. Quite a few authors have talked about this. It could just be over paranoia but I feel a cold filtered processed whey protein isolate is always worth the money unless your looking at some of the whey protein concentrates that are processed specially like Proserum (which is in whey protein products recommend by Dr Mercola and Jonny Bowden. They are processed at low temperatures, aren’t exposed to high heat pasteurization, and are processed and dried in a cold temperature environment. Even then I wouldn’t use huge amounts of it. Also, more and more cholesterol oxidizes as time passes, and most of the whey you buy has sitting around for quite some time. I could be ridiculous but its something worth thinking about.
