Paris Pippillion Wins Light-Heavyweight Title at Texas State Championship
I just got back and settled in from a trip to my old stomping grounds – Houston, Texas – where I was helping one of my clients, Paris Pippillion, with the last few days of his contest prep for the 2009 NPC Texas State Bodybuilding Championship.
After weighing in just under 187 pounds, Paris pretty handily dominated the Light-heavyweight class (177-198 pounds) . However, the overall title went to the Heavyweight class winner, Erick Perkins, by the narrowest of margins.
Seeing as how our goal was never to peak for this show and to focus on the NPC National Championship in 4 weeks, I’d say winning the light-heavyweight state title is a HUGE success. Though I have to admit that we both would REALLY have liked to have Paris walk away with the title of “2009 Mr Texas.” I honestly thought he was going to win, but of course I’m biased.
After looking at photos from the contest, I think some slight posing mistakes may have made the difference…but who knows. One thing’s for sure, we will have those posing errors corrected prior to the Nationals.
We will be bringing Paris in as a 176-pound middleweight for the Nationals, where I expect Paris to be VERY competitive.
Here are a couple pics from the overall posedown at the Texas State Bodybuilding Championship. Paris is in the maroon trunks and Erick Perkins (the overall winner) is in the lighter red trunks to Paris’ right.
