The Diabetes Freight Train is Outta Control!

glucometer“If we don’t change our diet and exercise habits or find new, more effective and less expensive ways to prevent and treat diabetes, we will find ourselves in a lot of trouble as a population,” says Dr. Elbert Huang, lead author in a new study in the December issue of Diabetes Care.

Currently 23.7 million – that’s right, MILLION – people have Type II diabetes, also called adult onset diabetes…and this is in the United States alone!  But don’t think that number has plateud.  Not a chance, in fact, since 1990 the incidence of diabetes in the U.S. has increased by about 5% every single year.  If that’s not bad enough, this outta control freight train shows now signs of slowing down.

This epidemic doesn’t just affect those with diabetes.  When you realize that it costs an estimated $113,000,000,000 (yep, 13 BILLION dollars!) to treat all these people with diabetes, then it becomes clear that it affects ALL of us.

The frustrating thing for me is that we know how to prevent the vast majority of type II diabetes cases!  They’re NOT usually due to genetics or something out of our control.  The  predominance (I would say over 90%) of these cases  are due to eating too much synthetic, crappy ass food and not exercising enough!  That’s it!  Hello?!

So here’s a tip: if you don’t want type II diabetes, then eat moderate amounts of healthy food and exercise reguarly.  Don’t make it more complicated than that.

That’s all for now…my mini rant is over. :)

Yours in health,

Dr Clay
