Alex, slow digesting proteins (i.e. casein) are great just about any time of the day, NOT just before bed. In fact, at least one study has shown that consuming casein post-workout is better (in regards to building muscle) than fast-acting whey - doh! So the "casein before bed" mantra is just one tiny piece of the puzzle, not the whole picture.

99.9% of the population needs not worry at all about what type of protein to consume when - that's really splitting hairs. Instead, the focus should be more on fundamentals like eating 6 healthy meals per day - day in and day out.

Lastly, you can't really decipher my thoughts on (or knowledge of) specific nutrition topics (like casein) by looking at some sample meal plans I laid out. I designed those to be real-world, user-friendly nutrition plans.

Kimberly, thanks so much for taking the time to say that. :) And a BIG congrats on your decision to become a trainer! I'm sure you'll do great in that AND in your show! And I'm proud of you for taking the chance to step out of your comfort zone, after all, that's where all the good stuff happens.

Although I can't say more yet...keep an eye out here for some stuff around here that we'll be doing specifically to help personal trainers and aspiring personal trainers.

Keep doing what you're doing - finding your passion and going for it!

Hi Dr. Clay I wanted to say that I read your articles and catch your FA forums every now and again. You inspired me to become a personal trainer and finall compete in my very first figure competition this summer. I have a little bit of tweaking to do but so far I am on the right track. Thank you for providing your knowledge and experience to so many of us. I would like to catch one of your seminars or Figure coaching but I am sure that your services are well out of my price range. So for now thank you for giving this young mom the tools and ground work to change other peoples lives as you did mine.
