What’s a quick and easy option if you don’t have a post-workout shake?
Just the other day I’m rolling up to the gym and getting my stuff (iPod, Versa Gripps, log book, etc.) ready for a great workout. All of the sudden I realize I totally forgot to bring my post-workout shake with me. Although I did make it, it’s not doing me any good sitting on my kitchen table.
What to do?
I strolled next door to the supermarket and went straight back to the milk and dairy section. Within 2 minutes I’m heading out the door to the gym with my $1.59 workout/post-workout drink in hand – low-fat chocolate milk.
While there are arguably more high-tech post-workout nutrition options, fat-free (or low-fat) chocolate milk has been proven to be far better than nothing after a workout. In fact, chocolate milk is better than a carb only post-workout drink option, like Gatorade or Powerade.
Although I’m not replacing my workout drinks with chocolate milk, a few studies show that consuming chocolate milk after a workout does a pretty good job at enhancing recovery above baseline.
When you face some sort of minor setback, do like I did on this particular day and focus on finding solutions as opposed to focusing on the problem.
