The Art of Fulfillment: great TED Talk by Tony Robbins (video)

Here’s a video I just came across titled: Why we do what we do, and how we can do it better.

It’s a video of a TED Talks presentation by Tony Robbins, and I wanted to share it because Tony does a great job of breaking down human motivation and what drives us (to do what we do).

Understanding why do things better enables us change the things we do. And by changing what we do, we can change the results we get.

Notes:

6 Human Needs

  • certainty
  • variety (uncertainty)
  • significance
  • connection/love
  • grow
  • contribution

Do you do things you wish you didn’t do? Of course, we all do. Take honest reflection on what needs are being filled by those actions. Then come up with alternative, more constructive ways to fill those needs.

For example, you may avoid going to the gym because it feels boring and doesn’t fulfill your need for variety. If that’s the case, look for alternative, yet productive solutions. You could hire a trainer to implement variety, or you could get some TRX straps and train outside. Whatever the case, focus on creative solutions as opposed to self-limiting problems.

In the spirit of self reflection, what drove me to share this video with you? Primarily my desire contribute. And doing so helps me to feel significant. Then when you leave a nice comment I feel the love. :)
